I have another 30 cal can in the wait as well because I was tired of sharing the Saker for 4 guns, it seemed to make sense to get another 30 cal can, so I can pretty much dedicate my Saker to the 300blk SBR that I built. Then realizing how expensive plinking with 300blk is, and wanting to do more play time with subsonic stuff that is cheap to shoot, caused me to start building a 9mm AR that im still waiting on the suppressor for. You really should be running a heavier buffer also. If you have an adjustable gas system, turn it down until the gun stops cycling, then open it up just enough to make it cycle reliably. If you are going to start running a suppressor on your AR and are running it with supersonic loads, please keep in mind that you are increasing the backpressure on the system a lot and if you don't make a couple of changes to your rifle, you can shorten its life significantly. The bullet breaking the sound barrier is louder than 140db which is why most like to shoot subsonic bullets to make the platform quieter. 223 with a good suppressor are going to run in the neighborhood of 137-140 db, which is hearing safe, but still uncomfortable to my ears. As a novelty, yes, you can load up a few and keep them around for fun, or showing off at how quiet you can make it, but your rifle will likely be turned into a single shot and you will have to manually cycle the action to load the next round every time. Its likely that it will be almost impossible to get your AR to cycle reliably at all with subsonic loads unless you build the gun for that purpose. I have to ask why you want a subsonic 223 round though as you are turning your center fire rifle into a. ![]() First, welcome to the world of suppressors. ![]() ![]() ![]() Some systems and even outposts claimed by one alliance may appear on the territory of the other alliance, which is dominating here by influence.ġ. When the 6th attempt does not lead to atmospheric access, victims remain crushed where they are, though no longer levitated. Lower bodies and torsos are often crushed during the process. Six-attempts victims often suffer significant bodily damage as they are repeatedly forced into windows, doors and walls. While some victims exit the building after one attempt, many (especially during the first several months of The Culling) experience six attempts to leave. Attempts to leave a building or vehicle begin at the same time as most other victims experience the departure stage. These attempts involve 1) a reorientation of the body such that the feet are pointed in the direction of windows or doors and 2) steadily faster ramming movements into the windows, doors or walls. If a victim’s body is unable to access an open space because it is in a closed building or vehicle, then it will experience up to six attempts to exit the space. Body position, facial expression and eye openness remain constant during the moving stage. This rate of movement does not change when additional weight is added (i.e., when a loved one jumps on their back). ![]() During this stage, bodies have been consistently measured to move at 3.1 miles per hour or 4.55 feet per second (5.0 kilometers per hour or 1.39 meters per second), equivalent to the average speed at which humans walk. Despite repeated testing, it is unknown to what extent consciousness remains. Unless constrained by another object, victim’s bodies typically levitate immediately between three and four inches (just under nine centimeters) from their original location. Previous activity (i.e., verbalizing or running) ceases immediately. ![]() Body position, facial expression and degree of eye openness remain as they were before. Mankind does not yet know what happens to the victims of The Culling after the departure stage.ĭuring the floating stage (also referred to as the levitation stage), victims stop breathing and their hearts stop beating. ![]() Victims of The Culling experience three known phases, the initial floating stage, the moving stage, and the final departure stage. Used in this more recent context, it is unclear why some individuals are selected and others are not, and unclear whether the individuals taken or the individuals left behind should be considered the cull. “The Culling” (used capitalized) was coined in early 2016 by Richard Farnsworth, then President of California Institute of Technology, when he and his team of Astrophysicists reported to the public that alien space travelers had been visiting Earth twice monthly. When done with intent, the culling process was repeated until the selected group was of the proper size and consistency desired. The cull is the set of items rejected during the selection process. Historically, the term was applied broadly to mean sorting a collection into two groups: one that will be kept and one that will be rejected. The word culling comes from the Latin colligere, which means “to collect”. ![]() ![]() ![]() At that time, the blinking light moves further up the strip toward the top. Obviously, you can be sure that this speaker is NOT charging when no cord is plugged into it.Īs mentioned, we have an LED strip in the lower center of the front of the speaker, just beneath the JBL logo. Mids are clear with vocals given good presence, and highs are rolled off for a warmer presentation, until you start pushing the volume up and up.How to tell if JBL Charge 5 is charging? Well, this power bank speaker has a strip row of LEDs on the lower front, as shown in the pictures following. We’ve heard bookshelf speakers that produce less bass than the Charge 5. Bass is impactful and deep, which is surprising for a speaker of this sound. Tonally, the JBL Charge 5 sounds balanced at medium to low volume. There’s an additional tweeter in the Charge 5 that helps with overall clarity, and bass is slightly more impactful than the Charge 4, too. Overall, the sound quality of the JBL Charge 5 hasn’t changed much from the Charge 4. If you’re pushing the speaker at higher volumes or are using it as a battery bank to top off your phone, expect that number to drop. In terms of battery life, the JBL Charge 5, like the Charge 4, is rated for 20 hours of playback, which we had no problem reaching while playing at 50% volume. JBL offers a nice mobile app that allows you to customize its speakers and to download software updates, though it's worth noting that firmware updates can take upwards of 15 minutes. It’s also nice to get true stereo playback out of a pair of speakers. The feature is great if you want to play music across a large area where multiple speakers can help amplify sound. However, like other JBL portable speakers, the Charge 5 features the “PartyBoost” mode, which allows users to pair a second JBL speaker to either amplify music or use as a stereo pair. In terms of technical specs, the Charge 5 includes Bluetooth 5.1, a 7500 mAh battery capacity, and a frequency response rated 65 Hz - 20k Hz. We preferred the stability of the Charge 4’s square design to allow for easier vertical placement. ![]() This difference isn’t a big deal until you want to set the speaker up vertically, allowing the speaker to look like the Leaning Tower of Pisa. One subtle change is that the JBL Charge 5 is shaped like a trapezoid with the sides tilting inward. The drivers are protected by a lip around the speaker, but you’ll still be able to touch the drivers without damaging them. The Charge 5 retains the exposed bass drivers on the left and right of the speaker, which lets you see the woofers moving in and out. The Charge 5 drops support for the 3.5mm aux jack from the JBL Charge 4, which is a bummer for some who have legacy devices they want to hook up. Around the back, the JBL Charge 5 has a waterproof USB-C charging port as well as a flap hiding the USB-A port that can be used to charge up your smartphone. ![]() ![]() ![]() Judge said he thinks contemporary movie theaters lack the magic they used to have. The only thing this game has going against it is that the dungeons can look quite similar. The only thing that doesn’t allow this game to stand out more is that it really is in a rather crowded field. From the ease of combat to a fetching art style, the game is one that could show up on “game of the year” lists if it had a bit more word of mouth. The dungeons don’t vary much in appearanceīook of Demons isn’t a particularly complex game but what it sets out to do is done very, very well. There’s an interesting story unfolding if you want to pay attention to the “gossip.”.There are enough different powers and magic spells to keep players engaged. ![]() ![]() The art style is impressive and allows the game to stand out.Thing Trunk took it’s time officially releasing Book of Demons and when they finally did, they definitely got it right. All of this action is wrapped up in a pretty bow that definitely stands out in a crowded field thanks to a great art style.Īll of the characters are made to look like paper cutouts that gives the game a bloodless PG-rated look that doesn’t take away from just how fun it is to play. This feature adds to the ease of use the game went out of its way to put front and center. The characters automatically fire their primary weapon in the direction of advancing enemies as well. Just pick the loadout before you enter a dungeon and start aiming and clicking. All of this can be do with a couple of clicks and none of it requires you to open up a separate menu or waste time trying to figure out what button you need to push.Īll of your powers are laid out in a way that doesn’t require players to remember complex combinations. There are going to be times you’re going to be blasting five or six enemies that are all converging on your position while also attempting to freeze time, freeze your enemies, put up a shield or heal yourself. That’s despite the fact that you can be calling up all kinds of different powers and weapons in a short amount of time. One way the game stands out for the better is that the controls when you go into battle, are quite simple. Book of Demons Stands Out in a Crowded Field To some degree, Book of Demons is like most other Hack and Slash dungeon crawlers in that each character has specific weapons and powers that can be unlocked the further you battle through your enemies. The end game is to get to the bottom level, where you will take on the biggest bad and try and save the village that lies hundreds of miles above where you’re doing all the fighting. Players take on the role of either a mage, a warrior or a rogue and battle their way through one level after another of monster-infested dungeons. Perhaps the best part of the game is that it’s a rather complex game packaged in a way that is very simple. On December 13, the Hack and Slash dungeon crawler officially came out of Early Access and it’s pretty clear Thing Trunk knew what it was doing when it declared the game “finished.” This might be one of the more underrated games in this genre this year, especially since it launched with such little fanfare. Maybe that has something to do with the service paying a little too much attention to AAA titles. The fact that it isn’t more well known and more loved is a sign that things can certainly fall through the cracks when it comes to Steam. It’s been available in one form or another in early access since 2016. ![]() ![]() ![]() Rather, we’re acting much more like a true “brain implant” for ChatGPT-where it asks us things whenever it needs to, and we give responses that it can weave back into whatever it’s doing. One particularly significant thing here is that ChatGPT isn’t just using us to do a “dead-end” operation like show the content of a webpage. Here’s an example where we saw ChatGPT (rather impressively) “having a conversation” with the Wolfram plugin, after at first finding out that it got the “wrong Mercury”: But different from the solid “right-answer-and-it-doesn’t-change-if-you-ask-it-again” experience that one gets in Wolfram|Alpha and Wolfram Language. Since ChatGPT uses randomness in generating its responses, different things can happen even when you ask it the exact same question (even in a fresh session). If you actually try these examples, don’t be surprised if they work differently (sometimes better, sometimes worse) from what I’m showing here. And, as a bonus, we can also make a visualization:Īnother example from back in January that now comes out correctly is: In January, I noted that ChatGPT ended up just “making up” plausible (but wrong) data when given this prompt:īut now it calls the Wolfram plugin and gets a good, authoritative answer. Let’s try another example, also from what I wrote in January:Ī fine result, worthy of our technology. But the upshot is a good, correct result, knitted into a nice, flowing piece of text. There are lots of nontrivial things going on here, on both the ChatGPT and Wolfram|Alpha sides. You can see this back and forth by clicking the “Used Wolfram” box (and by looking at this you can check that ChatGPT didn’t “make anything up”): How did this work? Under the hood, ChatGPT is formulating a query for Wolfram|Alpha-then sending it to Wolfram|Alpha for computation, and then “deciding what to say” based on reading the results it got back. And here’s a bonus: immediate visualization: It’s a correct result (which in January it wasn’t)-found by actual computation. So here’s my (very simple) first example from January, but now done by ChatGPT with “Wolfram superpowers” installed: But when it’s connected to the Wolfram plugin it can do these things. It’s still very early days for all of this, but it’s already very impressive-and one can begin to see how amazingly powerful (and perhaps even revolutionary) what we can call “ ChatGPT + Wolfram” can be.īack in January, I made the point that, as an LLM neural net, ChatGPT-for all its remarkable prowess in textually generating material “like” what it’s read from the web, etc.- can’t itself be expected to do actual nontrivial computations, or to systematically produce correct (rather than just “looks roughly right”) data, etc. And today-just two and a half months later-I’m excited to announce that it’s happened! Thanks to some heroic software engineering by our team and by OpenAI, ChatGPT can now call on Wolfram|Alpha-and Wolfram Language as well-to give it what we might think of as “computational superpowers”.
